FedSDC's Communications
Working Group

Our Communications projects and strategic comms fill a critical void in conversations on school discipline and climate, political and policy exchanges, and problematic gaps in legislative proposals. We also focus on the inclusion of education equity within all of our public facing communications and comms work, which includes the voices of multi-marginalized youths and hyper-local community leaders - the ones most directly impacted.

GOALS

The primary goal of our comms efforts is to reshape the narrative on abolishing harmful and traumatizing exclusionary discipline policies and practices, while also influencing the policy outcomes in favor of education equity. We envisioned success to mean an increase of multi-marginalized youths strategically using media outlets as an extension of their policy and social impact advocacy for education equity.

The Communications (Comms) working group also seeks to bring to the attention of national media the work of local advocates and leaders, and to call out the harmful actors within the federal space who continue to undermine local efforts. The Coalition will pitch messaging, platforms, actions, and events to national media, and provide or receive strategic advice to and from partner organizations to ensure alignment with the different prongs of strategic communication and social media efforts.
