FedSDC Working Groups

OUR GROUPS

The Coalition working groups coordinate federal strategy with local efforts, groups and communities, and uplifts local work and voices to demand federal policies eliminate punitive harms for Black and Brown students to have the highest level of impact for those impacted. The working groups are  made up of activists, advocates, local organizing groups, directly impacted individuals, and experts, and co-chaired by coalition leaders who work collaboratively with the field and one another to create a path forward to advance educational equity, as well as racial equity and justice within education policy.

Through messaging and education, direct lobbying, legislative action and policy drafting, research, and litigation, the working groups drive the day-to-day advocacy work, strategies, and priorities on a number of issues related to educational equity, school discipline and school climate, including but not limited to corporal punishment, seclusion and restraints, exclusionary discipline (suspensions, arrests, ticketing and expulsion), police free schools, etc.

FedSDC has six core working groups that help to lead ongoing strategies at the federal level around a range of issues focused on school discipline and climate. The strategies and work of the working groups are informed by the expertise from various local and national groups, organizations, and directly impacted individuals. Each working group has a broad range and specific set of expertise on the various topics such as local, state and federal education policy, school discipline and climate, racial justice, policing, disability justice, governance, civil rights, youth justice, reentry, correctional education, and strategic litigation.
